2 Minute Tricks # 2 - Convert Color Photos to Black and White with Adjustment Layers

Episode #2 is up, and it's a day early! Enjoy.

Show Summary: This week we will be looking at a way to convert color photos to black and white using adjustment layers. This method gives you a lot of control over how you image will look in black and white, and it is way better than Photoshop’s default method of making black and white images.

Hi Kent!
Saw a link to you on Chris's site, and wanted to thank you for a clear, concise explanation of something I was just trying to get a good understanding of. Recently got a Canon DSLR and am now trying to absorb loads of info on digital photography and post processing. I'm a female photographer with only film experience, so this can be deep water for me, but thanks to some wonderful people out there, I've got a fire in my belly again and am loving it.
Good job!
Look forward to more shows in the future.

Hi Lee!
I'm so glad you found the podcast! And I'm really happy to hear that its helping. I'm trying to keep the tricks nice and simple so everyone can benefit from them. I know the switch from film to digital can be a little overwhelming and photoshop itself can be daunting. But its so much fun once you start fiddling around with all of.

I'm glad your enjoying it!

If there is a topic you are interested in hearing about, or something thats giving you trouble, give me a holler and I'd be happy to either discuss it on the show or here too.

Oh, and thanks for popping by the site. Its always nice to hear from people who are enjoying the show and learning from it!

Kent,
Maybe this is a subject you'd want to address in an upcoming show. I'm wondering the reason why Photoshop offers different types of layers, and what the differences between Duplicate Layers, Adjustment Layers and Fill Layers are.

I'm sure this is a pretty basic question, but I know how important the layers aspect of Photoshop is and until I understand the differences don't feel like I can wade any deeper!

Thanks again. Best wishes for much success. I bet a lot of us Tips from the Top Floor fans will find our way over to your site.

Hey everyone! Thanks for the kind words. I'm really glad these tips are helping.

As far as layers go, I'll try to give a short over view on the differences between them on the next edition of the podcast. Let me know if you still have questions after that.

Oh and feel free to ask any questions you like. I'll try to keep up with some answers.
