I was wondering if you knew how to make a jpeg. out of text but with no background. I need to insert it into a web page and I need the current background to come through (around) the text. Thanks Steve

You can’t do that I’m afraid. not with standard jpeg anyway. I can’t remember off hand if jped2000 can but that can’t really be used on the web anyway. Your best bet if gif (256 colour limit though) or png.
If you use png which is your best bet you will need to use some browser transparency hack for older versions of ie. you can google these quite easily. you can see this effect in action on my old site that is still up http://www.80110x.com/modules/news/ the logo is png (as are the menus)

Be sure to make copies of your original files and just play around to get the effect you want
